divided the auto universe in to sports cars and SUVs, one which comes into fashion at the expense of the other in a cyclical way. There are other types of vehicles on the road in significant numbers which vie for people's attention and dollars. Because the two are not substitutes for the other, 'bored' sports car owners who are just looking for a new thrill or the next thing (their only goal in their new vehicle selection according to you) do not have to choose an SUV. They can just as easily choose a sedan, or pickup truck (or a motorcycle for that matter since features and design are irrelevant, right?). Even if SUVs came to dominate all car sales when the Z32 fell out of favor, the total sales of the Z is so small it's a logical fallacy to conclude that Z buyers necessarily went to the SUV. Z buyers could have just as easily chosen an alternative. Given an alternative, mere succession does not prove causation.
